Hindsight is 2020: What This Year Has Taught Me

Hindsight is 2020

Do you remember at the beginning of the year when pastors and bloggers said 2020 would be the year of 20/20 vision?

I don’t they realize just how we’d gain that vision.

Now that 2020 is almost in our rearview mirror, I think it’s a perfect time to look over the year and see what we’ve learned. Personally, I’ve learned a lot this year.

For one, I’ve learned that my priorities were not in order. I’ve found myself frustrated at times when family obligations interfere with work, but now I see that I need to find a good balance. The work God’s called me to is important, but He’s also called me to be here for my family, and I can’t discount that.

Second, I’ve learned that I haven’t trusted God enough. When times were hard, I became frazzled and stressed out. Now I see that God’s always there working even when I can’t see Him. I need to trust that He knows what’s best. Trust that He’s got things under control, even when the situation seems grim.

Third, I learned the importance of focus. I can be easily distracted, especially with so many things on my plate. And that was the first problem: I had too many things on my plate. Lockdowns and stay-at-home orders forced me to let go of a few things, and I realized those ministries weren’t going to crash and burn because of my absence. God called me to do specific things, and I need to focus on those. This provided me with so much clarity and helped lower my stress level.

So while this hasn’t been the best of years, it hasn’t been the worst, either. God’s still good. He’s still faithful. Most importantly, He’s still here. And He loves us just as much as ever.

That’s just the clarity I needed.

So what about you? What did you learn in 2020? Let me know in the comments!
