Just Read: Sweet on You by Becky Wade

Let me first start off by saying that if you decide to read this book, you should have a box of chocolate close by. Because seeing as Britt Bradford, the heroine, is a chocolatier, there is a lot of chocolate making in this novel. And it made me very hungry.

Now that that piece of housekeeping is taken care of, we can commence with the review.

Sweet on You is the conclusion to Becky Wade’s Bradford Sisters trilogy. Zander’s feelings are teased in the first two books, and in Falling for You, Zander decides to head out on a Grand Tour, much to Britt’s chagrin.

But guess what? He’s back!

Zander returns when his uncle dies, but then he discovers his beloved uncle wasn’t the man he’d always believed him to be. But who exactly was his uncle? He sets out to discover the secrets his uncle harbored, and of course, his best friend Britt joins him on the search. And he finds he just can’t hide his feelings anymore.

I love that I got to know Zander a bit in the previous books. I was already rooting for him, and honestly, I was half in love with him before I even opened the book. And Wade did a great job showing Zander and Britt’s friendship through old notes, journal entries, and letters. Zander is devoted to Britt, and it becomes so easy for the reader to see it that sometimes I wanted to shake Britt and ask her how she could be so blind! And then I saw Britt’s notes from the past, and I realized that Britt was blind to more than just Zander’s feelings. She was blind to her own!

Wade definitely should get some credit for that, as well as the way she fleshed out the mystery of Zander’s uncle. There were definitely some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Plus, I loved seeing Britt and Zander’s relationship progress as they tried to solve their mystery.

I didn’t quite understand Britt’s aversion to romantic relationships. She said she always gets bored and wants to move on, but her parents have such a loving relationship, I was confused how she didn’t quite believe she’d find such a relationship. I did, however, understand why she didn’t want to risk her friendship with Zander. They had been friends for so long, of course she wouldn’t want to throw it away. I spent most of the book mentally encouraging Britt to let go of her reservations and just give it a chance.

Sweet on You is…well, sweet. No pun intended. Zander and Britt’s journey is so enjoyable I’m tempted to go read it again. Then again, I’m tempted to read the whole series again! If you haven’t read the other books, I highly recommend you do.
